Tesla is reportedly shipping 10,000 brand-new electric cars to Australia, according to ship tracking expert VedaPrime.
The American electric automaker indeed had a good start in Australia’s EV industry this year. In the first four months of the year, it reported more than 14,000 new Model 3 and Model Y deliveries, The Driven noted.
Key details
The report indicated that the electric car mix allocated to the Australian market had changed so far in Q2 2023. It now includes 85% Tesla Model Y and 15% Model 3.
These figures mark a significant leap from the YTD record, wherein the sales of the Model 3 are ahead of the Model Y.
To think of it, the Tesla Model 3 production downshift in Giga Shanghai may have affected the sudden change in the mix of EVs for Australian buyers. As EV-a2z previously reported, the Chinese plant is gearing up to produce the model’s revamped version, which is expected to be “longer and sportier.”
Apart from that, the number of ships carrying Tesla EVs has been rising, reaching 10 for the quarter and continuing to rise.
As we all know, Tesla sources Australia’s EV supply from the Gigafactory Shanghai in China. Considering the Chinese plant has been ramping up production, Tesla has substantially boosted Australian deliveries in 2023.

The announcement that there will be thousands more Tesla EVs can only be positive for Australia’s EV uptake. The cost of used EVs will probably decline as more supply is available.
