Tesla’s latest software update, Version 2023.38, introduces a new feature that offers customers more precise information regarding Superchargers‘ availability upon arrival. Apart from that, it predicts wait times for customers at particular Tesla Supercharger stalls.

Predictive Charger Availability

The Tesla software update tracker Not a Tesla App discovered an unannounced feature in the 2023.38 software update. It revealed that the Musk-led company will begin predicting Supercharger availability and wait times.

In order to do that, Tesla aims to take into account critical factors like the following:

  • Number of Tesla EVs heading towards the same station
  • Data history of the particular Supercharger

“Tesla will now predict how many Supercharger stalls will be available at your arrival, and display the predicted wait time, if any. Tesla says they will factor in your travel time to the Supercharger, as well as other Tesla vehicles’ travel times, to predict the charger’s availability when you arrive.”

Significance

Tesla’s in-car navigator currently only displays the number of available Supercharger stations. Its live data also shows the number of available stalls out of all the installed stalls at a specific site. It greatly aids nearby drivers in deciding if they will move to the next stop if one has no available stalls or wait.

However, these data might not be useful anymore when drivers are still one hour away from charging stops because the charging stalls may not be available at the time of their arrival.

That said, the new software update is crucial for Tesla to address this concern and make charging easier for customers. The new feature can now predict the number of available stalls when customers arrive rather than how many are available in real time.

Electrek indicated that Tesla incentivizes customers to visit its Supercharger stations through the navigation system as it allows the EV battery to prepare for fast charging.

In addition, it will now allow the company to track the number of customers going to a Supercharger station at any time and predict the time of their arrival.

Other new features

Apart from predicting Superchargers’ availability and charging wait time, Not A Tesla App also indicated the following features included in the new 2023.38 software update:

  • Updated Hazard Lights Pattern
  • Vampire Survivors: Multiplayer Gaming
  • Location Sharing: Enhanced Transparency
  • Windows Adjustment

If an airbag is deployed, hazard lights will automatically activate & flash faster to improve visibility

Drive Tesla Canada reported that Tesla has begun releasing the 2023.38 software update just this week.

The new Predictive Charger Availability significantly demonstrates Tesla’s commitment to offering superior electric vehicle ownership among its customers. It greatly makes longer trips more convenient as it lessens uncertainty over charging availability.
