Electric vehicle giant Tesla will finally make its comeback at the Detroit Auto Show this year after eight years of absence, the press release confirmed.
Teslarati noted that Tesla stopped joining the special event in 2015. The brand’s annual EV sales were roughly 50,000 units then. That said, it would be a way bigger brand when it attends the 2023 Detroit Auto Show on September 13 to 24 at Huntington Place.
Tesla to offer street course rides & drives
Tesla has yet to announce the electric vehicle models it will bring to the Detroit Auto Show. However, it would be unsurprising if the company exhibited the all-electric Cybertruck and the facelifted Tesla Model 3 Highland.
According to Drive Tesla Canada, the Musk-led company will also offer street course ride-and-drives.
It will join established brands Ford, GMC, BMW, Cadillac, Chevrolet, and Volkswagen in exhibiting their innovative EV models at the new “Powering Michigan EV Experience indoor track ride-along activation.”
About the event
The Detroit Auto Show is widely recognized as one of the world’s most prestigious annual automotive events that presents technological advancements.
The official website indicated that the event features “product ride-and-drives and dynamic experiential activations.”
“We’re thrilled to be able to bring auto show audiences a broad spectrum of brands and vehicles. As a dealer association-backed auto show, one of our main goals is to display all the brands that are sold in our region. This blend of bringing together corporate- and dealer-supported vehicles is trending at auto shows nationwide, and it’s really become the catalyst for the future success of shows across the country. Dealers are still the closest conduit to the consumer.”
Rod Alberts, Detroit Auto Show Executive Director

Notably, Tesla’s move to join such events seems to be part of its strategy to defend its dominant position against established automakers and startups’ new model launches.
