Tesla has just confirmed plans to finally offer the Full Self-Driving (FSD) subscription program in the Canadian market in the “coming weeks,” almost 3 years after it launched in the United States.
Plan details
Tesla Vice President of Public Policy and Business Development Rohan Patel shared the American electric vehicle giant’s plans to launch the FSD Beta subscription in Canada in response to a Tesla fan query.
Tesla-centric platform @teslascope asked Mr. Patel on X about potential legal barriers that impede Tesla from offering FSD subscriptions to Canadian customers on February 20, 2024. At that time, he confirmed that Tesla indeed has plans to make FSD Beta subscription available in Canada.
“Looking into this one now. Unless there are legal or other blockers I don’t know about, we’ll get this done.”

The Tesla executive responded again to the query on March 9, saying that Chief Executive Elon Musk had already given the green light for the FSD subscription program launch in the country. Mr. Patel further hinted that the rollout might transpire in the coming weeks, “barring any setbacks.”
“Elon approved this Canada update and the team is working on the technical and regulatory procedures to make sure we don’t trigger any unintended provincial issues. Barring any setbacks, I’d expect this in the coming weeks.”

Pricing
Tesla’s Vice President of Public Policy omitted to share the exact pricing of the FSD beta subscription in Canada. For reference, it costs $199 per month in the US market, while Enhanced Autopilot is only $99/month.
In Canada, the price of the FSD beta at-purchase option is CAD $16,000. However, the option to pay monthly enables Tesla owners to cancel the subscription anytime. It can also enable interested customers to trial the technology first.
Based on the current exchange rates, the subscription cost in Canada could be approximately CAD $269/month.
FSD Beta development progress
In hindsight, Tesla rolled out the FSD Beta in the Canadian market in 2022. However, it did not offer a subscription program until now.
Tesla has also been releasing the FSD Beta V12 to select owners over the past few months, before rolling out the update to a wider pool of customers.
In 2023, CEO Musk announced that the FSD V12 would no longer use the “Beta” moniker. Many Tesla fans anticipate the software update to hit the market soon, as it has already been released to Tesla employees since November last year.
