Tesla will reportedly launch a welcome update for its Full Self-Driving fleet this January, as per Drive Tesla Canada. Essentially, the advanced driver assists technology will enable testers to turn off the steering wheel noise.

Subscribed to FSD and in less than 5 minutes beta is being downloaded on my car. Beta is truly wide release! Amazing stuff @tesla @elonmusk!

Problem with the steering wheel

Tesla’s FSD Beta Program is still in the process of development toward achieving full autonomy. It currently has 285,000 testers in North America. The automaker has also launched the FSD pilot program for its European employees for over a year.

That said, the automaker included a special feature to the system which checks drivers’ attention. However, this feature eventually became unpleasant for the drivers as it frequently “nags” them.

FSD Beta tester Chansoo Byeon called out CEO Elon Musk on Twitter to disable the steering wheel nag feature, which was later agreed upon.

.@elonmusk Can we get rid of the steering wheel nag for FSD Beta & replace it with #TeslaVision already?

Almost half of my disengagements are from trying to get rid of the nag while on FSD. Thanks@aelluswamy@MartinViecha @WholeMarsBlog @28delayslater $TSLA

EV enthusiast Whole Mars Catalog also raised the issue to Elon Musk on Twitter, suggesting that testers with over 10,000 miles on FSD Beta should be allowed to disable the steering wheel nag.

Musk responded positively to this relevant suggestion on January 1.

Agreed, update coming in Jan

Tesla will perhaps finally fulfill a long-standing need from the community to show the number of miles traveled when utilizing Autopilot and FSD. It will be a key criterion if an FSD tester qualifies for the update.

Furthermore, FSD users with older Model S and Model X vehicles may be unable to use the update. The report indicated that it would only be accessible to vehicles with an in-cabin camera.

The invention of the most sophisticated driver assistance technology will be necessary to achieve Tesla’s target of fully autonomous driving. It is a significant modification that shows that the FSD is continuously developing.
