Recent filings indicated that electric vehicle giant Tesla has been expanding and upgrading the Fremont plant. Now, the electric automaker is apparently seeking to install new manufacturing equipment for EV batteries at the plant.
Expansion efforts
Teslarati’s 2022 report suggested that Tesla was developing EV batteries and packs on the second floor of the Fremont plant. At that time, Tesla employees claimed the operation included Cybertruck battery pack production, which apparently occupied a special line and area on the second floor.
There were also reports in mid-April that the battery pack production at the Fremont plant is progressing, as the automaker filed for more refinements to the “Pack B-Build” production line. As mentioned, the Cybertruck packs were given a dedicated line named “CTA Battery B-Build.”
Due to the tight quarters at the Tesla Fremont plant, the company reportedly requested permission from the City to reorganize its second-floor equipment.
The filing title, which Tesla submitted on April 21, is “Equipment Space Moves.”
Interestingly, Tesla’s filing on April 21 appears to be approved. Now, Tesla intends to upgrade the Fremont plant’s second floor with additional manufacturing machinery.
Furthermore, the “Tooling Package” equipment was requested by Tesla to be installed on April 28.
“New manufacturing equipment adjacent to existing equipment on second floor of assembly building.”
Tesla indicated in the filing
Tesla’s expansion efforts in the Fremont factory are undoubtedly progressive. CEO Elon Musk even announced in 2022 that the automaker plans to significantly expand the plant. Well, it is not surprising as it currently produces the S3XY lineup. However, Tesla has no plans to produce the Cybertruck there. Nonetheless, it will aid the battery pack production for the electric truck.
