Three construction-related job positions have been published on Tesla’s website, suggesting that the electric car manufacturing company may be pushing forward with its proposed lithium refinery plant in South Texas, according to Caller-Times.
Tesla stated that it is evaluating a site west of Corpus Christi for a $375 million lithium refining plant.
Talks about the idea came in September after Tesla’s online application for tax abatements from the Robstown Independent School District was made public.
The job postings are the most recent step in Tesla’s attempts to build what would be the first plant “of its kind in North America.”
What are the jobs available in Tesla’s planned lithium refinery plant?
Below are the three positions posted on Tesla’s website:
· a full-time project scheduler
· area superintendent
· area construction manager
According to the job postings by Tesla, all of whom “will be playing a critical role in the construction of Tesla’s first lithium refinery plant(s) near Corpus Christi.”
However, salary ranges and the deadline for application have not yet been posted.
According to a Caller-Times analysis of Tesla’s application, the plant’s operation would generate a total of 162 permanent employments. Ten permanent roles would have annual salaries of at least $81,000. Meanwhile, the remaining positions would have an average salary of roughly $52,800.
What are the qualifications one must have?
According to the job postings by Tesla, it ranges:
· seven-plus years in heavy industrial, oil and gas, and complex chemical plants
· five-plus years with specific construction-scheduling software
About the Lithium Refinery Plant
Tesla’s application to the school district, the proposed lithium refinery facility would specifically package and ship battery-grade lithium hydroxide.
Why lithium hydroxide? It is a crucial part of the batteries in Tesla’s EV products and fleet.
As per the report, the location is west of Corpus Christi, close to the intersection of US Highway 77 and County Road 28, which is only a few kilometers from the city of Driscoll. It is surrounded by the Robstown school district’s limits and unincorporated Nueces County.
According to Tesla’s forecast, commercial operations might start in the fourth quarter of 2024.
