Electric vehicle giant Tesla has reportedly delivered a Tesla Semi to its customer Walmart, according to a spy video shared by an industry enthusiast on social media platform X.
Walmart-branded Tesla Semi spotted in California
Walmart is one of Tesla’s waiting customers for the all-electric Semi. In a significant headway, EV content creator @AcceleratingTec released several photos and videos of a Walmart-branded Tesla Semi on X on Saturday.
The spy photos and videos were reportedly taken by the content creator’s brother in Stockton, California, on May 3, 2024.
Apart from towing a Walmart trailer, the Tesla Semi’s body features “Walmart Transportation LLC” branding. This detail solidifies growing speculations that Walmart has finally started accepting Semi delivery.
The news comes amid Tesla’s expansion of its current Semi pilot program beyond its first batch of deliveries to major partner PepsiCo way back in 2022.
Tesla expands Semi pilot program
The sudden appearance of a Walmart-branded Tesla Semi emerged following Tesla Senior Manager of Semi Truck Engineering Dan Priestley’s X post in mid-April 2024, thanking Martin Brower and other waiting customers.
Martin Brower (MB) has already kicked off its Tesla Semi pilot program, which has been delivering quite remarkable results so far.
Walmart ordered hundreds of Tesla Semis, but this is the first time the Musk-led company has been spotted delivering them.
PepsiCo has also demonstrated encouraging results from its early Tesla Semi pilot program. The electric truck reportedly topped 1,000 miles in 1 day in a single test.
Tesla Semi production
Tesla has been relatively low-key regarding the Semi production progress since delivering the first batch to PepsiCo in 2022.
In December last year, the American electric automaker’s Vehicle Engineering Vice President Lars Moravy disclosed that Tesla’s Semi fleet has already hit the 100-unit threshold.
During the recent Q1 2024 Earnings Call, Tesla announced plans to boost Semi deliveries by late 2025. It also aims to kick off external customer deliveries in 2026.
Tesla also officially started the expansion of its existing Giga Nevada in January 2024. The expansion is expected to raise the Tesla Semi and 4680 battery cell production in the future.
