Electric automaker Tesla enjoyed an unbeatable year-on-year sales growth of 272% in Germany in the fourth month of the year.
Germany is frequently regarded as an indicator for the larger European auto market as it has the biggest car industry in the entire region. Therefore, Tesla’s European sales substantially increased as it continued to see spectacular growth in the country.
As expected, German car registration agency KBA’s April report disclosed that the American EV giant had passed a new sales threshold with its unstoppable sales growth.
Tesla sales in April
KBA indicated that Tesla’s sales hit 2,420 electric vehicles in April. As mentioned, that figure represents an astounding YoY sales increase of 272.3%.
Apart from that, Teslarati also reported that Tesla’s Q1 2023 sales more than doubled from the same period last year, indicating a 109.2% sales growth.
Most significantly, KBA also indicated that Tesla has successfully smashed the 1% market share threshold, climbing to 1.2% in April. It is worth noting that this latest record is among the highest market presence Tesla has ever attained in Germany, with a margin of 0.2%.
Unfortunately, KBA is yet to publish the model-specific sales figures.
Upward auto industry trend
Tesla’s increasing sales in Germany are consistent with the larger industry trend, which enjoyed a surge in car sales during April, up 12.6% YoY.
Additionally, EV sales began to pick up steam in April, rising 34.1% YoY. It also accounted for a record-breaking market share of 14.7% and sales of 29,740 EVs, Teslarati reports.
Suppose the auto market follows its usual course over the next two months. In that case, Tesla may enjoy even greater sales for the remainder of the quarter.
