Musk’s design request delays Robotaxi event

On Monday, Tesla Chief Executive Elon Musk officially confirmed on social media platform X that the Robotaxi unveiling will ensue later than promised due to certain front design updates.

The announcement came in response to a tech enthusiast’s X content about the long-awaited Tesla Robotaxi debut.

“Requested what I think is an important design change to the front, and extra time allows us to show off a few other things.”

Apart from the front design changes, Tesla CEO Elon Musk noted that the delay would also enable the Robotaxi team to present what seemed to be interesting new features for the upcoming autonomous car.

What’s currently known about the Tesla Robotaxi?

Tesla has been developing an electric car from the ground up that will support autonomous driving capabilities for the past few years.

Tesla has been referring to the project as Robotaxi. However, CEO Musk called it the “CyberCab” during the company’s recent earnings call.

The EV giant has yet to reveal more details about the Cybercab apart from previous hints that it would not feature a steering wheel or pedals and would sport a “Cybertruck-like” design.

New date TBA

Last week, Bloomberg reported Tesla’s decision to postpone the Robotaxi event from the original August 8 schedule to October 2024.

The delay is apparently part of Tesla’s efforts to secure more time to produce more Robotaxi prototypes.

Today, the Tesla boss officially confirmed the report. However, he omitted to share the new schedule for the highly anticipated Robotaxi debut. Many Tesla followers, such as Not a Tesla App, expect Tesla to push through with the planned Robotaxi event later this year.
