Tesla recently updated its mobile app to version 4.14.1. Bug fixes were all that the users anticipated from the update. However, a closer look at the code revealed that the referral program is coming back with some new rewards.
Drive Tesla Canada reported that the anticipation of the referral program’s return was intensified by the recent mobile app update’s source code. It indicates owners would be able to earn more than just free Supercharger credits.
At the core of the referral program, existing owners could provide new buyers with their referral codes. The current owner would earn 1,500km or 1,000 miles of complimentary Supercharger credits if that individual purchased a Tesla using the code.
In retrospect, the referral program was introduced during the automaker’s initial days. The rewards offered during its peak ranged from a free set of wheels to a free (or two) Founders Series Tesla Roadster.
According to Electrek, many people eventually attained the required referral points. Many customers had been qualified for considerable discounts. Moreover, it was estimated that Tesla would deliver roughly 80 brand-new Roadsters to the people who accumulated sufficient referral points.
Later, Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk declared that the company was ending its referral program. The financial obligation from a large number of Roadsters to give away caused the company a lot.
That said, the program was eliminated last year to purchase Tesla vehicles. Excitingly, the program seems to be coming back. Tesla App Updates (@Tesla App iOS) includes several additional references to referral codes and redemptions.
The references to the possibility of not only earning Supercharger miles but also redeeming referral points for official goods and accessories are arguably the most compelling. It includes software upgrades for Tesla vehicles. A “referral challenge” has also been added.
However, the code is unclear on the return date of the referral program. Such hints can sometimes materialize within days or weeks of being detected in the mobile app’s source code, but they can also take much longer.
In light of certain speculations that the automaker is experiencing demand difficulties while attaining record deliveries, this is an uncommon demand trigger from Tesla.
