Tesla’s ongoing job cuts have affected about 20,000 employees in its global workforce. Now, the cost-cutting efforts have expanded to the company’s internship program just weeks before it starts.

GM seeks to recruit former Tesla interns

Ex-Apple Recruiting Manager and current GM Talent Sourcing Strategist Laura Del Amo is encouraging laid-off Tesla interns to seek a spot in the company’s software teams in a new LinkedIn post.

“In light of recent industry news, GM is extending an invite to software students who may have been impacted from the changes in Tesla’s upcoming summer internship cohort.

We believe in the strength of our automotive community and are keen to integrate diverse talents into our team. If you are now looking for a new internship opportunity, let’s connect. #IworkforGM“

Numerous fresh software grads commented on Ms. Del Amo’s LinkedIn post, including several master’s and PhD students in computer science, computer engineering, data analytics, and other related fields.

GM’s history of hiring former Tesla employees

GM’s move is unsurprising, given its history of hiring ex-Tesla executives.

GM appointed the former Tesla Senior Director of Battery Technology Kurt Kelty as its Battery Operations Vice President in February.

Moreover, it also hired former Tesla Gigafactory Nevada VP Jens Peter Clausen as its new Manufacturing Head in March.

Tesla’s ongoing layoffs

Tesla Chief Elon Musk notified employees about the plans to lay off more than 10% of the company’s global workforce on April 15.

Since then, several Tesla executives announced their departure from the American EV giant. Tesla’s largest-ever job cuts also affected the entire Supercharger team and more recently, the departments of engineering, production, marketing, design, and human resources, etc.

Tesla launched its fourth week of layoff notices on Monday.

Tesla began a new round of layoffs last weekend across several departments, including software, service, and engineering, Electrek reported. The US electric carmaker announced earlier that it would cut 10% of its employees. @Tesla @Tesla_Asia pic.twitter.com/HJH48QFNub
