Tesla released new job listings for its vehicle service department on its official website, with 89 openings listed in a single day in California alone. The automaker apparently needs a sufficient workforce to meet the fast-growing demand for its EVs amid the price cuts.
Notably, it implemented price cuts on selected models by up to $21,000, allowing some of its EVs to receive the $7,500 federal tax credit. Intriguingly, this strategy affected the broader auto industry. It caused used car values to fluctuate and even triggered other automakers to join the price war.
Job listings
Below are just a few of the nearly 100 new customer service jobs Tesla posted for California:
Position | Department | Site |
Service Technician | Vehicle Service | Sunnyvale, California |
Service Technician | Vehicle Service | Fremont, California |
Service Technician | Vehicle Service | Rocklin, California |
Collision Technical Trainer | Vehicle Service | Fremont, California |
Customer Escalation Representative | Vehicle Service | Fremont, California |
MSO Network Manager | Vehicle Service | San Jose, California |
Collision Severity Specialist | Vehicle Service | Fremont, California |
Operations Coordinator, Collision Training | Vehicle Service | Fremont, California |
Notably, a few of the job openings also involve collision repair for Tesla vehicles. As the carmaker moves away from using external body shops, this area has been growing with the opening of new collision centers in the United States.
Moreover, Tesla claimed that it was developing vehicle service for North America last year, with the goal to perform same-day repairs for two-thirds of appointments. Additionally, CEO Elon Musk announced that the company would use Formula 1 pit crew approaches to offer same-hour service as regularly as possible.
Well, all these matters are necessary as Tesla’s fleet of customers is expanding far more quickly than its support infrastructure and servicing capability. Tesla apparently went so far as to assign untrained staff members from other departments to work on its electric vehicles last year for the Q4 delivery push.
That said, Tesla’s hiring spree comes as no surprise as the demand for its EVs grows as the day goes by. Many customers are taking advantage of the currently effective price cuts.
