American automaker Tesla has once again raised the prices of its Model S sedan and X SUV after imposing significant price cuts for these flagship models last month and on April 6. In exchange, Tesla offers new customers three years of complimentary Supercharging.
As we all know, Tesla has been reducing its EV prices, with Model S and X having the highest price reduction among the entire lineup, per Electrek.
Price adjustments
Tesla’s price adjustments for the Model S and X occurred just two days following the Model 3 and Y‘s price cuts.
The starting price for the Model S prior to the overnight price hike was $84,990. Meanwhile, Model X’s base price was $94,990 at the time. Following the increases, their prices have now increased by $2,500 for all variations of both models.
Below are the price increases for the Model S, per Tesla’s website:
- Model S AWD: $87,490 (was $84,990)
- Plaid: $107,490 (was $104,990)
On the other hand, here are the price increases for the Model X, per the company’s website:
- Model X: $97,490 (was $94,990)
- Plaid: $107,490 (was $104,990)
Apart from these, Tesla has also adjusted the prices of the steering controls. The round steering wheel comes standard, but the yok steering wheel costs $250.
Tesla offers 3 years of free Supercharging credits
Along with the new prices, Tesla offers three years of unlimited free charging on its network of Supercharger DC fast-charging stations with the purchase of either Model S or X.
The incentive is not transferrable to another vehicle or the next owner. Buyers must also take possession of their new Model S or Model X between April 20 and June 30.
“Used vehicles, business orders and vehicles used for commercial purposes are excluded from this promotion.”
Tesla
Another good news for customers is that Tesla allows those who already have unlimited free Supercharging to enjoy six years of Supercharging credits.
Tesla also claims that Superchargers can increase the range of the Model S and Model X vehicles by up to 200 and 175 miles, respectively, in just 15 minutes.

Considering that Tesla Model S and X are already disqualified for the federal tax credits of up to $7,500 due to their high MSRP, we are now seeing them go back up.
Nonetheless, three years of free Supercharging is arguably a stronger demand-creator at the pricing points of the Model S and Model X than a $2,500 price reduction.
