Electric vehicle giant Tesla has apparently postponed the customer deliveries of the Cybertruck electric pickup due to an issue with its windshield wiper motor, according to several Cybertruck Owners Club members.

Cybertruck owners report windshield wiper motor defect

For those unaware, the Tesla Cybertruck features the largest wiper compared to any other consumer vehicle.

Tesla’s design approach to maintaining a straight line from the front end all the way to the roof’s apex resulted in nowhere to conceal wipers between the windshield and the hood. It prompted the Cybertruck design team to put a vertical giant exposed wiper for aerodynamic reasons.

Now, numerous Cybertruck customers report Tesla’s move to postpone deliveries for about a week due to the windshield wiper motor.

“Was supposed to pick mine up on Sunday and I was told it’s late next week now.”

Another online community member also shared his experience with the Cybertruck’s wind wiper issue.

“I picked up on Tuesday in Florida and left and made it 20 miles and it started pouring raining. Had to sit in a Dunkin Donuts for 3.5 hours and call Tesla roadside assistance because i couldn’t see. They took it to the SC and said it would be a few weeks before the wiper motor could be replaced. Once the rain passed, i took the CT and added some Rainx for now. But it was super dangerous…had to open my window and hang out the window to see until i could get to a safe place with the wiper not working.”

As of now, Tesla has not yet released a recall notice.

Not all Cybertrucks are affected

In hindsight, Tesla had to delay the Cybertruck deliveries this spring due to faulty accelerator pedals that could get stuck. The safety issue affected around 3,878 Cybertruck units.

Now, recent reports suggest that Tesla is facing another safety issue with the stainless steel electric pickup.

Fortunately, the windshield wiper motor issue does not affect all Cybertruck units.

Some owners reported that they have already driven their Cybertrucks for miles without encountering any issues with the windshield wiper.

Remedy

Unlike most Tesla safety recalls, this recent vehicle defect is not something an over-the-air software update can fix.

Tesla would likely need to impose a voluntary safety recall to fix or replace the windshield wiper motor with the defect.

Tesla has yet to release an official statement about the wiper issue. However, another recall would no longer be surprising, considering the number of owners experiencing the problem.
