American electric vehicle giant Tesla has recently announced a new subsidy program in the Netherlands to match the government’s incentives for select Model Y units.
Tesla’s new subsidy match program
Tesla’s X account for Europe & Middle East formally announced the new subsidy program in a post on Monday.
As indicated, Tesla will match the Netherlands government’s Subsidy Scheme for Electric Passenger Cars for Private Individuals (SEPP) of €2,950 (~$3,215).
The Tesla Model Y was previously eligible for the SEPP subsidy. Tesla’s price cuts at the time enabled the RWD variant to hit the eligibility price range of between €12,000 and €45,000 (~$13,078 to ~$49,041). However, the company raised the electric crossover prices again in Europe. In effect, it lost its access to the SEPP subsidy.
Coverage
The Musk-led company offers the new subsidy match program to prospective buyers of pre-configured Tesla Model Y rear-wheel-drive (RWD) vehicles.
Interested customers can check the available pre-configured Tesla Model Y RWDs in the Netherlands on the company’s official inventory website.
Netherlands-based buyers can access the offer by placing an order from July 9 to August 31, 2024 only. They must also take delivery before September 30, 2024.
Tesla’s footprint in the Netherlands
The Netherlands continues to be a crucial market for the American electric vehicle giant. In fact, it was one of the first countries to enjoy Tesla Supercharger stations for all electric vehicle brands in 2022.
Last year, Tesla Model Y sales reached a total of 13,714 units in the Netherlands. This figure enabled the American electric crossover to account for about 17% of the overall electric vehicle market. The brand also led the local market with an 8.3% market share across its offerings.
The launch of the new subsidy match program highlights Tesla’s commitment to further promote its electric vehicles and the shift to clean mobility in the Netherlands. With this offer, customers will not miss out on the reduced price.
