Winning factors

Parkers, with the aid of Fleet News, selected the Tesla Model Y as the best company car of the year owing to its superior qualities, such as follows:

  • Low taxation costs
  • Desirability
  • Speed
  • Joy to live with
  • Short lead times
  • Remarkable real-world range

“Short lead times, impressive real-world range, and rock-bottom tax bills make the Tesla Model Y a highly desirable company car and a worthy winner of this year’s award. No wonder the Model Y has consistently been the UK’s best-selling company car.”

Keith Adams, Parkers.co.uk editor

Apart from the above-mentioned qualities, Parkers also praised the Tesla Model Y’s innovative technologies, including smart infotainment, advanced driver-assistance system (ADAS), and safety systems.

In addition, the five-seater electric SUV also offers an impressive boot and minimalist interior that enables a spacious cabin.

According to the Fleet News Senior Staff Writer, the Long Range Tesla Model Y is the most popular variant for company car drivers. It boasts a driving range of up to 331 miles between charges. It can also match sports cars in terms of acceleration.

In addition, its battery pack can also reach an 80% state of charge in just less than 30 minutes using Tesla Superchargers or other public ultra-fast chargers.

“With a choice of three powertrains, there’s a Model Y to suit a variety of needs and budgets. The mid-spec Long Range makes the most sense for company car drivers. It can cover up to 331 miles between charges, and the battery can be recharged to 80% capacity in less than half an hour at one of Tesla’s Superchargers or a public rapid charging site.”

Matt dePrez, Fleet News Senior Staff Writer

The model’s cutting-edge sat-nav system also facilitates a superior experience by smartly providing a route, including charging stops.

Other contenders

According to Teslarati, the Parkers evaluated a total of 18 award-winning cars for the 2024 Company Car of the Year.

Unsurprisingly, the popular Tesla Model Y beat all other rivals, including the BMW i4 and the MG4 EV.

As mentioned above, the award winner selection process was a partnership between Parkers and Fleet News. According to Tesla North, it involved expert reviews and purchasing habits of Parkers’ 2.3 million users who are currently in the car-buying process.

2024 Car of the Year award winner

Unfortunately, the Tesla Model Y failed to secure the most coveted title, “Car of the Year,” for 2024.

The MG4 EV apparently won the said award owing to its “affordability, driving experience, and well-balanced features,” as emphasized by Parkers’ New Cars Editor Alan Taylor-Jones.

Drumroll, please… as the @MGmotor all-electric MG4 EV is announced as the 2024 Parkers Car of The Year! This excellent all-electric hatch also bags our Best Small Family Car and Best Value awards 2024!https://t.co/DauxEWk0Rd pic.twitter.com/2krQLkLUJf

— Parkers (@ParkersCars) November 13, 2023

Parkers also praised MG4 4’s winning features, including its advanced parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, and a 10.0″ touchscreen with smartphone integration.

The seventh annual Parkers’New Car Awards 2024 highly demonstrates the changing customer preferences in the automotive industry. Tesla’s achievement of the prestigious 2024 Company Car of the Year also proves the Musk-led company’s dominance in the EV space. This new award can significantly boost the electric crossovers’ sales in the coming quarters and accelerate Tesla’s target of producing 20 million EVs by 2030.
