YTD (Jan – Aug)

Tesla Model Y sold a total of 151,191 units in the region this year to date. This strong sales performance enabled the American electric SUV to overthrow Dacia Sandero’s 148,080 unit sales.

VW T-Roc followed the top two models with its sales of 138,302 units. Notably, Tesla Model Y enjoyed a 198.3% sales growth so far this year.

Sandero’s sales only grew by 19.2%, while T-Roc was only up 20.7%, the report noted. These percentages demonstrate Tesla Model Y’s significant advantage against these two European models.

BEV industry progress

Europe’s new car sales significantly improved in 2023. In fact, the Peugeot 208 was the sole model among the 17 popular cars to suffer a sales drop of 6.7% this year.

Nonetheless, battery electric vehicle (BEV) sales notably grew and surpassed diesel vehicle sales in August.

Moreover, it accounted for 21.7% of the overall market for the first time in history, as revealed by  ACEA.
