American EV giant Tesla has once again proven the competency of its offerings, with another remarkable performance of its Tesla Model X Plaid on a drag race conducted by Carwow.

Notably, Tesla Model X Plaid’s consistent dominance in drag races since its debut demonstrates the shortcomings of other automakers in terms of their EV technology.

Super high-performance SUVs are very common in the industry nowadays. As noted by Teslarati, there are already SUVs like the G-Class from Mercedes with its innovative Bi-Turbo V8, the Durango SUV from Dodge with its supercharged V8s for years, and the X5M from BMW.

However, Tesla’s Model X Plaid electric SUV has remained unbeatable against them since its market debut.

The SUVs that took part in the drag race on Carwow are listed below, along with the time it took them to complete a quarter mile:

2Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT11.4
3Lamborghini Urus Performante11.7
4BMW X5M Competition11.7
5Mercedes-Benz GLE 63 S12.2

As expected, the only EV participant, Tesla Model X, beat the prominent internal combustion engine SUVs. The Model X Plaid accelerated quickly and maintained its lead for the whole quarter mile due to its exceptional torque.

The electric SUV has a horsepower of 1,020 and a torque of 752 pound-feet. Furthermore, it is equipped with a tri-motor AWD drivetrain, enabling 0- 60mph in just 2.5 seconds acceleration.

However, the vehicle e-pricing comparison may have caught everyone off guard more than any other.

The table shows that the dominant Tesla Model X Plaid is more affordable than the Lamborghini Urus Performante. Meanwhile, the Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT is the most affordable in the lineup, followed by the BMW X5M.

Interestingly, there is no doubt that the competition is set to get much closer since each of the automakers that competed with the Model X today has plans to launch higher-performance electric cars in the years ahead. However, legacy automakers still have a long way to go before they match Tesla.
