Leading American automaker Tesla delivers again another good news with the excellent performance of its luxury Model S sedan on Euro NCAP’s safety tests. According to CleanTechnica, the Model S earned a five-star safety rating from Euro NCAP among any other EV tested by the program.
The Tesla Model S performed exceptionally in all four Euro NCAP categories despite going through the most recent and stringent safety testing process.
The following are featured in Euro NCAP’s safety test category: adult occupant protection, child occupant protection, vulnerable road user safety, and safety assist features.
Tesla’s Euro NCAP safety results by category
Category | Tesla Model S | Tesla Model Y |
Adult Occupant Safety | 94% | 97% |
Child Occupant Safety | 91% | 87% |
Vulnerable Road User Safety | 85% | 82% |
Safety Assist Features | 98% | 98% |
As shown in the table above, the Tesla Model S received 94 % for adult occupant protection, 91% for child occupant protection, 85% for vulnerable road user safety, and 98% for safety assist features.
It outshined Model Y’s results in child occupant protection and vulnerable road user safety categories by 4% and 3%, respectively. However, the Model Y bested the Model S in the adult occupant protection category with its 97% result. Interestingly, both Tesla vehicles had similar results in Safety Assist Features for 98%.
Tesla Model S’ safety features
Notably, Tesla has equipped the following standard safety features to all Model S units:
- avoidance driver monitoring
- front-structure casting
- automatic airbag suppression
- far-side airbags
- multi-collision braking
- unique Model S steering yoke
Tesla claims its dynamic safety systems are intended to make its vehicles the “safest cars in the world,” as published on its Vehicle Safety Report page. Furthermore, the automaker posts quarterly statistics from vehicle safety reports on the internet. However, the 2022 data is yet to be released.
Remarkably, the Model S established the bar for safety in Tesla vehicles with its 2012 debut. It was one of the few cars in 2014 to receive a 5-star rating from Euro NCAP and five stars across every NHTSA category.
