A Tesla Model S Plaid managed to set a new quarter-mile run world record for the high-performance electric sedan, as demonstrated by a drag racing YouTube channel on Monday.
Tesla Model S Plaid sets new quarter-mile run record
The Tesla Model S Plaid in question reportedly achieved an 8.56-second quarter-mile time at a remarkable speed of 162 mph.
Miguel Roy, the person behind the Tesla Plaid Racing channel, achieved this record-breaking quarter-mile run with his 2021 Model S Plaid at Napierville Dragway in Quebec, Canada.
This latest result beat previous record holders for the Tesla Model S Plaid, including an 8.714-sec quarter-mile run from a tuned version and an 8.73-sec result from another Plaid trim.
It is also worth noting that the Tesla Model S Plaid achieved an acceleration time of 0-60 mph in just 1.88 seconds and an 8th-mile speed of 5.57 seconds at 130.46 mph on Monday.

Growing anticipation for the Tesla Roadster
Electric car enthusiast @DragTimes took the opportunity to ask Tesla CEO Elon Musk through the X post if “this what the new roadster will run,” highlighting the growing anticipation for the all-electric supercar.
CEO Musk recently announced plans to kick off the Roadster’s production in 2025 after several years of delay. In the meantime, the Tesla Model S Plaid will need to remain the quickest production car in the world.
However, it is worth noting that the Tesla boss previously teased that the company targets a sub-1-second 0-60 mph takeoff for the next-gen Roadster with SpaceX’s technology.
For a sub-$85,000 electric car, the Tesla Model S Plaid is undoubtedly fast enough. However, it is a completely different level of speed. We will highly likely see even more impressive performance out of the highly anticipated Tesla Roadster when it debuts on October 10, 2024.
