American EV giant Tesla has once again demonstrated the competitiveness of its EV offerings in Norway. The Tesla Model S beat 28 other EVs in the winter range test conducted by the Norwegian automotive publication, Motor. The event occurred between Oslo and Hjerkinn on a 365 kilometers (227 miles) one-way route.

Remarkably, the Tesla Model S was the only EV to pass the 450- (280-mile), and 500-kilometer (310-mile) marks set by the testers.

Tesla Model S performance

The Tesla Model S managed to drive 530 kilometers (329 miles) on -10° and -5° Celsius (14-23° Fahrenheit) temperatures on a single charge. Notably, it only lost 16.4% of the claimed 634-kilometer WLTP range rating (394 miles).

It is interesting to note that the Tesla Model S even got off to a slow start in the test. As per the report, the battery could only be charged up to 98% due to a technical issue. That said, the EV could have driven further to accrue more kilometers.

The recent results ultimately broke the previous record of 521 kilometers (321 miles), set by its sibling Tesla Model 3 Long Range, in 2021.

Range losses

The test included 29 EVs, including the record-breaker Tesla Model S. The other EVs that recorded the least range losses are the following: Maxus Euniq 6 (-10.45%), MG Marvel R (-16.7%), MG 5 (-17.6%), Kia EV6 GT (-17.69%) and Tesla Model X Plaid (-18.23%).

Meanwhile, most of the participating EVs recorded 20% or more range losses. Notably, the Toyota bZ4X recorded the highest decline in its claim range to 35.79%.

Other EV participants in the range test include Chinese models such as the Nio ET7, BYD Han, Hongqi E-HS9, Voyah Free, JAC e-JS4, BYD Atto 3, and more.
