California‘s bestselling EVs in 2022, the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y, qualify once again for a $2,000 rebate under the Clean Vehicle Rebate Project (CVRP).
“The Tesla Model 3 and Model Y have been added to the CVRP eligible vehicles page. To be eligible, the applicant must meet all eligibility requirements and must apply within 90 days of registering the vehicle.”
Clean Vehicle Rebate Project
In hindsight, the $2,000 rebate was originally applicable to these Tesla EVs until 2022. Tesla’s continuous price hikes caused the MSRPs to exceed the program’s $45,000 for passenger cars and $60,000 for SUVs limits.
Last month, Tesla drastically reduced the cost of both EVs, allowing them to requalify for the said incentives.
The CVRP grants eligibility to Tesla Model3/Y again
The CVRP updated its official website last week, finally including the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y on the qualified list. Tesla enthusiast @Vincent26574006 first spotted the changes in the CVRP website, stating that buyers may be entitled to the $2,000 rebate if they ordered on or after January 12.
“Tesla orders placed between March 16, 2022 and January 11, 2023 do not meet CVRP vehicle eligibility requirements, and are not eligible for the program.”

Criteria
As mentioned, the program requires pricing of $45,000 for passenger cars and $60,000 for SUVs. That said, only the Tesla Model 3 RWD, Model Y Long Range, and Model Y Performance met the program’s price caps.
Apart from the pricing, the CVRP has also set the following income limits:
Date of Vehicle Purchase/Lease | Income Limits |
Prior to February 24, 2022 Single filers Head-of-household Joint filers | $150,00 $204,000 $300,000 |
On/after February 24, 2022 Single filers Head-of-household Joint filers | $135,000 $175,000 $200,000 |
Furthermore, buyers must submit rebate requests within 90 days of their Model 3 or Model Y vehicles’ registration. They must present the supporting documents required by the CVRP and the proof of order date.
