Tesla enthusiast Wu Wa has just released the drone video he took at the Shanghai South Port terminal, revealing a huge export fleet of Tesla Model 3 Highland Right-Hand Drive (RHD).
Drone video highlights
As you can observe in the drone video published by the longtime Tesla watcher, the electric automaker seems to be preparing the new Model 3 Highland units for export at the Shanghai South Port.
Apart from the refreshed Tesla Model 3, there were also Tesla Model Y units at the terminal.
Wu Wa noted that the majority of the electric vehicle models parked at the terminal were in RHD configuration.
Implications
The drone video footage stirred excitement among Tesla fans, particularly from those in RHD countries.
For context, RHD vehicle configurations are designed for countries where people drive on the left side of the road, like Australia, New Zealand, and Japan.
It is also worth noting that these countries also receive Tesla cars produced from Gigafactory Shanghai, as noted by Teslarati.
As of now, Tesla only produces the revamped Model 3 Highland at its Chinese production plant. All these considered, it is no longer surprising that the local sales of the new Model 3 have remained consistent in the past few weeks and months.
Tesla’s insurance registrations (Nov 27 -Dec 3)
Tesla China recorded a week-on-week increase of 4.19% in its insurance registrations to 17,400 units from November 27 to December 3. For context, the figure was only 16,700 in the prior week.
This notable insurance registration growth demonstrates Tesla’s strong entry into the final month of the year.
Tesla bull Gary Black even forecasted Tesla would break its previous quarterly record of 156,700.
However, Tesla Gigafactory Shanghai needs to fulfill the global demand for the Model 3 Highland until the automaker expands its production to the Fremont Factory in California. That said, the Chinese production facility will undoubtedly be very busy in the coming months. Previous reports even suggest that Tesla will launch a Performance variant for the Model 3 in H1 2024.
