Tesla proudly announced on its Twitter account that its Gigafactory Berlin has finally achieved its weekly production target of 5,000 electric cars. Notably, it marks the plant’s progress to “volume production.”

Tesla’s production rate at Gigafactory Berlin

Tesla traditionally sets a 5,000/week target when ramping up a new vehicle to volume production at a new plant. As soon as the automaker began production in late 2021, it initially set that production rate by the end of 2022 at the Giga Berlin.

However, due to global supply chain issues, Tesla failed to hit that goal. At that time, it only managed to record 3,000/week production at the plant.

The production rate increased to 4,000 EVs weekly in late February.

Finally, the American EV giant announced that its Gigafactory Berlin had hit its 5,000/week production target just a month after the latest milestone.

5K a week is a big fuckin deal, esp as competitors struggle to get to that rate and scale effectively.

Tesla keeps pushing and it’s great to see.

Gigafactory Berlin to produce more than 250,000 units/year

If Tesla could manage to maintain this record-breaking production rate, the Gigafactory Berlin can potentially produce more than 250,000 EVs annually.

Even more, Tesla has finally gained the authorities’ approval to employ a production rate of 500,000 annually out of the factory. It has even hit its Model Y production target. With all that, the automaker would likely introduce a new EV to the Giga Berlin’s assembly line.

Electrek noted that the Tesla Model 3 is supposedly the next EV to join the Giga Berlin’s lineup. However, the Elon-Musk led automaker seems to already neglect that plan.

Apart from that, Tesla has also applied for the production rate expansion at Giga Berlin to 1 million/year. However, it must be noted that Tesla must first work on the plant’s footprint and get environmental approval.
