Tesla Giga Shanghai is reportedly at a production rate of 40 seconds per one Model Y Body-in-White on average, as the Chinese publication People’s Daily reported.
“In August 2022, Tesla’s Shanghai Gigafactory’s 1 millionth vehicle rolled off the production line. It took less than three years from the delivery of the first Chinese-made model to the achievement of this milestone, which became a phenomenal record in the history of the automotive industry. The ultra-high production efficiency allows Tesla’s Shanghai Gigafactory to roll off a Model Y body-in-white in about 40 seconds on average.”

This announcement is just one of Tesla’s numerous milestones despite its challenges in 2022.
Obstacles faced by Tesla in 2022
The COVID-19 pandemic has adversely affected Tesla’s Giga Shanghai operation. The stringent lockdown in China has compelled Tesla to suspend Q2 2022 operations.
Furthermore, CEO Elon Musk‘s Twitter-related antics have also caused the automaker’s stock to decline. Many investors and Tesla enthusiasts have expressed concerns regarding Musk’s credibility in managing Tesla.
Nonetheless, Tesla has still produced 1,369,611 and delivered 1,313,851 electric vehicles in 2022.
Tesla Giga Shanghai milestones
Tesla’s largest manufacturing facility Giga Shanghai reached its milestone of 1 million EVs last August 2022 in less than three years.
That is a significant achievement compared to Tesla’s Fremont Factory in California.
It is also worth noting that the localization rate at Gigafactory Shanghai is now more than 95%. As a result, the factory was able to develop an ecosystem for new energy automotive components, including the following: “batteries, automotive chips, autonomous driving systems, and automotive interiors.”
The facility is ultimately able to attain “safety, independence, and controllability” within its industrial ecosystem owing to this capability. Furthermore, the EVs produced from this facility are best-selling in international markets as the Giga Shanghai is the automaker’s central export hub.
