World’s most valuable automaker Tesla has officially launched its globally famous electric vehicle Model Y in Malaysia as it aims to expand its customer base, particularly in Asia.
Tesla’s all-electric SUV Model Y has advanced as the top-selling passenger vehicle worldwide since Q1 2023. It is unsurprising given the notable recognitions the EV has received recently, including the “Residual Value Award” in the European BEV SUV category and the “Best Car for Families 2023” award.
Now, the EV giant is actively working on its expansion efforts, recently penetrating the Thai market before Malaysia.
Tesla offers test drives for Malaysian customers
As part of the company’s launch event in the local market, Tesla is currently offering a test drive for interested customers in Kuala Lumpur. However, it must be noted that this pop-up location is only open before November starts.
“Model Y makes its debut and you can now experience the Model Y for the first time at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur from today until 31st October. At Tesla, we are committed and excited to help driving a zero emission and greener future for Malaysia.”

The Musk-led automaker released some photos from the launch event, showing that the brand has already gained popularity among attendees:
As for the pricing, the Tesla Model Y has a base price of RM 199,000 (approximately USD 43,800).
All that said, Tesla will erect the necessary infrastructures to support its operation in the local market.
“Tesla will establish a Head Office, Tesla Experience & Services Centers [sic], and Supercharger network, simultaneously creating skilled & better-paying jobs for M’sians.”

Although Malaysia does not have a huge automotive industry, it must be noted that Tesla has already penetrated most of the major markets worldwide (except for India).)
Nonetheless, Malaysian customers reportedly purchase approximately 500,000 vehicles annually. Tesla’s arrival in the country can aid it in establishing a competitive electric vehicle market and promoting clean energy vehicles.
