Electric vehicle giant Tesla continues to demonstrate unstoppable growth across its global operations. A recent report from a renowned mass media firm disclosed that Tesla’s employee headcount surged 300% to approximately 12,000 at its newest production plant in Austin last year.
Giga Texas’ development
Tesla invested $5.81 billion in building the Giga Texas in an enormous 2,500-acre site in Austin.
Undoubtedly, Tesla largely contributed to Texas’ economic growth, pushing the county towards being a significant tech hub.
In hindsight, Tesla CEO Elon Musk relocated its headquarters from Palo Alto, California, to Texas in 2021. Meanwhile, Tesla officially launched the Giga Texas last year.
Remarkably, Tesla’s Giga Texas employees expanded to 12,277 in 2022 from an initial count of 3,523.
However, that figure is still expected to increase as Tesla will need more employees for its planned cathode factory and lithium refinery in the county. The automaker is also recruiting more employees for the Cybertruck production.
It is worth noting that Tesla pays $47,147 for the average full-time employee at the manufacturing hub. Furthermore, over 50% of the Giga Texas workforce resides in the county.
Tesla boosts job growth in Texas
The US’ highest job growth rate was recorded in Texas, primarily driven by Tesla’s presence.
Giga Texas has also recently achieved its four millionth car milestone in February.
