Two renowned drone operators focusing on Tesla-related operations have recently captured the remarkable progress of the highly awaited Cybertruck production at Gigafactory Texas, suggesting that the automaker has started preparing for mass production.

Even more, recent spy photos caught Tesla Cybertruck’s front trunk open. It ultimately confirms that the electric pickup truck will indeed come equipped with a front trunk, or “frunk,” similar to the Ford F-150 Lightning.

Drone footages highlight

Joe Tegtmeyer’s drone footage revealed the installation of casting presses, a significant step forward in the manufacturing process of the Cybertruck. Additionally, it prominently displayed two massive 9,000-ton Giga presses, indicating that Tesla is making substantial headway toward full-scale production.

Tesla has been diligently working on the Cybertruck since Q1 2023, as evidenced by official factory photos released by the automaker. However, the latest drone footage suggests that the Musk-led automaker is now setting up all the necessary equipment for general production. The presence of numerous Cybertruck rear castings in the footage further corroborates this development.

Different drone footage from another Tesla fan, @greggertruck, provided a tantalizing glimpse into the Cybertruck production process.

Spy photos showing Cybertruck’s frunk

Cybertruck Owners Club forum member MarkusNZL shared the spy photos on the online community. Apparently, the photos were taken at the Southern Hemisphere Proving Grounds (SHPG) in New Zealand.

It is worth noting that the said location is exactly where the electric pickup truck was shipped earlier this month for final winter testing ahead of its scheduled deliveries in the third quarter of this year.

Confirmed, Tesla Cybertruck will have a frunk! 🤩

The open frunk can be clearly seen in the photos. It features daytime running lights integrated at the top, where the radiator grille would typically be found on a conventional combustion vehicle. This design choice leaves only the main beam headlights visible in the front bumper below.

Interestingly, the Cybertruck prototype captured in the photos is still sporting a military-style camouflage that was previously observed on a prototype cruising in Palo Alto, California, about a week ago. While being unloaded from a truck, it appears that the captured model lacks a plastic shroud to conceal the internal components, indicating that it is not yet in its final production-ready state.

Nonetheless, the large opening of the frunk suggests that loading heavy items into it will be effortless. While the exact size of the front storage compartment is still unknown, it is expected to be more spacious than the one found in the Tesla Model Y, given the significant disparity in size between the two vehicles.

Leaked: Tesla Cybertruck's mammoth frunk, dwarfing Ford F-150 Lightning's storage! Camo can't hide brilliance – LED bar & hidden lights, a game changer. The F-150 will face stiff competition come Q3. Is Ford ready? #CyberTruck @elonmusk pic.twitter.com/HNDYENbG8U

— Mo (@Buzzpulse01) June 26, 2023

The Cybertruck also stands out with its wider hood against the Ford F-150 Lightning, which features conventional headlights positioned on the front corners. This edge is achieved by implementing an LED light bar and concealed headlights, showcasing Tesla’s unique and innovative design choices.

Once deliveries of the long-awaited Tesla Cybertruck commence in the third quarter, a clearer picture of its specifications will emerge. It will also demonstrate how the Cybertruck would fare against its competition, namely the Ford F-150 Lightning, the Rivian R1T, and the Hummer EV

According to InsideEVs, Tesla expects to launch Cybertruck release candidates in August. For context, these units are near-production models that may still have a few faults.

Meanwhile, Tesla aims to commence customer deliveries by the end of the third quarter of 2023, indicating a probable end-of-September delivery event. These preparations for mass production align with the company’s timeline for bringing the Cybertruck to the market.
