Tesla Chief Elon Musk’s most hyped electric pickup Cybertruck has finally started production, with the first unit rolling off the assembly line on July 15.
As expected, the highly awaited pickup has already gained unprecedented customer demand. It has gained more than 1.9 million pre-orders already, as per the latest crowd-sourced data tracker.
“Demand is so far off the hook, you can’t even see the hook. I do want to emphasize that the Cybertruck has a lot of new technology in it, like a lot. It doesn’t look like — it doesn’t look like any other vehicle because it is not like any other vehicle.”
Tesla CEO Elon Musk said at the earnings call on Wednesday
Therefore, the Cybertruck is now on track to hit 2 million orders. However, new orders will take approximately five years to arrive.
What makes the Cybertruck special?
Tesla Cybertruck is a distinct electric pickup truck compared to conventional models currently available in the market owing to its innovative design and production approach.
It boasts an attractive dent-resistant steel body with sharp edges, making it look more intimidating on the road. It is also apparently the first truck to offer four doors with its six-foot bed. It can also park suitably in a 20-foot garage, reflecting its optimized external and internal dimensions.
The Cybertruck also features an adjustable air suspension that supports up to 16 inches of ground clearance. It has a towing capacity of up to 14,000 pounds and an estimated driving range of 500+ miles.
All that said, Tesla expects the Cybertruck to aid it in dominating the highly competitive pickup truck market. It is not exactly ambitious as the Cybertruck already gained surging demand ahead of production ramp-up, indicating a major change in customer preference for electric pickups.
Tesla to gain over $194 million in revenue from Cybertruck alone
The significant number of Cybertruck pre-orders offers Tesla more than $194 million in potential revenue. However, it remains vague if the Musk-led automaker can actually meet the overwhelming demand of almost 2 million units in a short period of time.
The arrival of the Cybertruck in the rapidly expanding EV industry will undoubtedly push its rivals to boost their electrification strategies to catch up. In effect, it can lead to further technological advancements in the industry and pave the way for more affordable EV models.
