Tesla has just confirmed previous reports that reservation holders for the all-electric pickup Cybertruck already surpassed the 2 million-unit threshold.
The confirmation came from Tesla Head of Design Franz von Holzhausen in Jay Leno’s Garage on Monday, which Vehicle Engineering Vice President Lars Moravy also attended.
Interview highlights
As Teslarati noted, Jay Leno’s interview with the two Tesla executives covered a “wide range of topics” about the Cybertruck and even beyond that. One of the most interesting details is the fact that the Cybertruck has already gained more than 2 million deposits.
The initial 40 minutes of the YouTube video focused on the Cybertruck’s design and engineering details. Jay Leno asked Holzhausen and Moravy about the Cybertruck’s wade mode and scuba pack features, which enable the vehicle to drive in water up to two and a half feet.
They also mentioned the Cybertruck’s remarkable 0.335 drag coefficient, high ground clearance, 800v charging architecture integration, etc.
Then, the three test-drove the Cybertruck across Los Angeles. The discussion continued to include Supercharging, bi-directional charging technology, and inductive charging’s future, among others.

Tesla asks reservation holders for a $1K non-refundable deposit
Considering the enormous number of Cybertruck reservation holders, it is unsurprising that Tesla is now trying to remove non-serious buyers from the list.
According to PCMag, the Musk-led company is requesting current Cybertruck reservation holders to pay a $1,000 non-refundable deposit. When Tesla announced the Cybertruck in 2019, it only asked interested customers a $250 refundable deposit.
Considering the significant price increase of the Cybertruck compared to its 2019 pricing, the number of reservation holders planning to actually buy the vehicle may decline.
