The best deal on Tesla's Full Self-Driving (FSD) software just got cheaper. The price has been reduced by a third, from $12,000 to $8,000 in the United States. This is a significant price cut, making the advanced driver assistance system more accessible to Tesla owners. pic.twitter.com/rSkTIQ1RZx

Price reduction in FSD add-on

Tesla cut the price of its FSD driver assistant software from $12,000 to $8,000 in the United States on Saturday, as indicated in the company’s official online configurator.

In Canada, the software’s outright price now costs CAD $11,000.

Before that, the Musk-led company also lowered the FSD (Supervised)’s monthly subscription fee from $199 to just $99.

Chief Elon Musk highly believes that Tesla’s Level 2 autonomous driving system can provide a new major revenue source for the company. However, it has failed to hit its goal of self-driving capability due to various factors like regulatory scrutiny.

Tesla stops offering Enhanced Autopilot

Apart from the FSD price cuts, Tesla has also eliminated the Enhanced Autopilot (EAP) offer from its online configurator.

However, customers who already acquired Tesla’s EAP can upgrade to FSD for only $2,000.

The move marks the latest announcement from the American electric automaker about the autonomous driving software ahead of the Robotaxi unveiling event on August 8.

FSD development progress

Earlier this month, Tesla proudly announced its milestone of more than 1 billion cumulative miles driven on FSD in 2024.

It also recently provided a month of free FSD (Supervised) trial for new vehicle purchases. CEO Musk also instructed its employees to offer test drives of the FSD as part of the delivery process.

In a more significant development, Tesla officially eliminated the “beta” moniker in FSD in March. The Level 2 autonomous driving system now uses “Supervised,” aligning with CEO Musk’s remarks last year that FSD v12 will no longer be a beta version.

Tesla has already started rolling out the software to employees and some customers in the past few months, with plans to expand its availability after passing additional testing.

Tesla also plans to offer the FSD software to its competitors in the electric vehicle market, potentially delivering a major revenue source in the future. Once the company proves its higher level of safety compared to average human drivers, many automakers will surely acquire the system to improve their models’ appeal to American customers.
