Tesla China hit another record in September, with the company selling 83,135 wholesale units over the month. The data was released by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA), according to Teslarati.
According to CPCA data, the number shows an 8% increase from August and outdid more than 5% month-over-month growth of all wholesale EVs sales in China.
It sets a new record for Tesla’s Giga Shanghai factory. It topped the previous sales record of 78,906 cars in June and 76, 965 vehicles in August 2022.
Globally, Tesla stated that last week it delivered 343,830 electric vehicles in Q3, a record for the automaker, however less than the 359,162 analysts expected, according to Refinitiv.
After suspending production at the Shanghai plant in July, Gigafactory Shanghai’s production lines were upgraded. Additionally, prior reports show potential for Giga Shanghai to produce about 266,500 cars in the fourth quarter of 2022.
The plant, which manufactures Model 3 and Model Y, had reopened on April 19 after a COVID lockdown, but only resumed full production in mid-June, as per CNBC. Moreover, the Model Y has its place as China’s best selling high-end SUV priced around $42,150 for several months.
Notably, reports from China have shown that Tesla is also putting the effort to drive vehicle sales for this fourth quarter. The company announced on October 1 several purchase benefits on local social media platform Weibo. These benefits include insurance subsidies, a 0% down payment financing lease, and preferential loan rates. Such programs may drive Model Y to be even more prolific.
