Tesla China is apparently piling up its electric vehicles for export from the Gigafactory Shanghai in China, as per the drone video footage captured by local drone operator WuWa.
Drone video highlights
As you can see in the drone video embedded at the bottom part of this article, Tesla is gearing up to ship an enormous number of Giga Shanghai-made electric vehicles to global customers as early as the beginning of the year.
The drone video revealed bustling activity at Port Shanghai, as Tesla works to carefully accumulate multiple Tesla EVs for other key markets across the world.
“We have seen a good start to the new year at Port Shanghai. [T]he South Port of Shanghai is full of seaborne Teslas, last year’s exports in the second half of 2023 are continuing, and we expect Tesla to be even better in 2024.”

Tesla’s record sales in 2023
Teslarati reported Tesla’s Q4 2023 production & delivery figures, which it released earlier this week.
For context, the Musk-led company delivered a total of 484,507 EVs, indicating a major growth compared to the prior quarter’s record of 435,059 units.
In the first quarter, Tesla reported a total deliveries of 422,875 units, followed by another 466,140 units in Q2 2023.
More impressively, Tesla successfully achieved its sales target of 1.8 million units in 2023, with a total delivery of 1,808,581 EVs. However, the number of its produced EVs reached a total of 1,845,985 units. Therefore, there are remaining 37,404 units to be delivered from last year.
Major challenges
Tesla’s significant sales growth in 2023 is indeed remarkable, considering the major challenges it faces in Sweden. The ongoing strike by the Swedish IF Metall Union substantially impeded Tesla’s operations and deliveries in the countries since October 2023 and further intensified in the rest of the year.
In fact, Tesla reportedly failed to complete its Model Y crossover deliveries to the Australian market. Tesla China suffered from export delays to Australia when the Glovis Caravel ship got restricted to make deliveries over biohazard concerns. In effect, Clovis Caravel was prompted to go back to Shanghai, prolonging the waiting time for Australian buyers of the Tesla Model Y.
