Tesla Chief Executive Elon Musk recently revealed two new interesting features of the new Roadster in an interview with American journalist Don Lemon on Monday. These features include the steer-by-wire system and a new yoke.
Elon Musk’s interview with Don Lemon
Don Lemon recently had a chance to interview business tycoon Elon Musk at Tesla’s headquarters in Austin for his YouTube content.
The American news anchor tried to extract more information about the highly awaited Roadster from the Tesla boss. However, CEO Musk omitted to disclose specific details apart from SpaceX’s involvement, hinting that the electric car would have some “rockety” features.
“I don’t want to give away much more than what I’ve said publicly, except that the Roadster will be a collaboration between SpaceX and Tesla. So you know you can expect some rockety stuff there.”

Don Lemon further asked CEO Musk if the Roadster would be a “flying car?” In response, CEO Musk simply said, “maybe.” He smirked, shook his head while rolling his eyes, and laughed out loud.
“It’s not out of the question.”

Considering CEO Elon Musk’s demeanor during the interview, it would be challenging to determine his seriousness in this matter.
“The only way to do something cooler than the Cybertruck is to combine the SpaceX and Tesla technology to create something that’s not even really a car.”

Don further asked, “What would it be?” Elon answered, “Something that’s never existed before.” Excitingly, the Tesla boss agreed to Don’s remark about “getting Jetson vibes.”
Chief Elon Musk also confirmed that the Roadster can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just below one second.
“That’s by far faster than any sports car that exists.”

Apart from these, CEO Musk also revealed that the Roadster will have a steer-by-wire system and a new yoke.
What is a steer-by-wire system?
According to Tesla Chief Musk, the new Roadster would feature “a drive-by-wire Yoke.”
For context, steer-by-wire technology eliminates the need for a driver to turn a wheel over 180 degrees to complete a full turn radius. In contrast, conventional rack-and-pinion steering systems need more than a complete 360-degree wheel spin to turn the vehicle.
This technology is not really a new development in the electric vehicle industry. However, Tesla has only started integrating it into its offerings. For instance, it initially equipped the steer-by-wire technology to the all-electric pickup Cybertruck. Now, the company has confirmed plans to launch the feature in the new Roadster electric car.
Timeline
Tesla Chief Elon Musk previously announced plans to reveal the new Roadster by the end of 2023. Notably, Tesla has already announced numerous launch schedules for the electric car, but they have not transpired. Therefore, it remains unclear if Tesla can actually deliver the Roadster by next year.
