Tesla is reportedly planning to build 200,000 Cybertruck units every year upon scaling production, Chief Executive Elon Musk revealed on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast posted on Tuesday.
Interview highlights
American broadcaster Joe Rogan asked the billionaire regarding Tesla’s monthly capacity for the Cybertruck production.
Instead of answering on a monthly basis, CEO Elon Musk responded with the company’s annual target of about 200,000 Cybertruck models.
“We’re aiming to make about 200,000 a year at volume production,. Maybe a little more, but I just can’t emphasize enough that manufacturing is much much harder than the initial design.”

The Tesla boss clarified that the Cybertruck’s production remains complex, making it harder to accelerate the process,
“Not that the Cybertruck was easy to design, I’m not trying to trivialize design. What I’m trying to do is to emphasize the difficulty of manufacturing which is not understood by the public because there’s no movie about it.”

According to Reuters, Tesla originally had a production target of over 125,000 Cybertrucks per year during its pilot phase. That said, the recent remarks from the boss demonstrate an almost twofold boost in output to more than 200,000 units.
Potential production capacity boost
Teslarati implied that the 200,000+ annual production target equates to more than 16,500 units/month. On a weekly basis, Tesla can produce about 4,000 models of the all-electric pickup truck.
It must be noted that CEO Musk has already warned at the Q3 2023 Earnings Call that production ramp-up for the highly awaited model would take about 12-18 months due to its design complexity.
In that sense, the billionaire praised Ford Motors Founder Henry Ford for being a “next-level genius” in vehicle manufacturing.
“The amazing thing about automobiles was not so much the invention of the automobile, but the invention of the factory and mass manufacturing. And for that, Henry Ford deserves a lot of credit. He was a next-level genius. In fact, Ford is really responsible for the entire mass manufacturing industry because he actually founded Cadillac, which was the heart of General Motors, then he got kicked out and then started Ford. And then other companies copied him.”

Timeline
Tesla recently announced plans to officially begin the initial deliveries of the Cybertruck on November 30, EV-a2z reported.
The imminent arrival of the Cybertruck is undoubtedly a significant advancement for the automaker, considering a four-year wait since its initial introduction at an event in Los Angeles. It also suffered from two tears of delays over various hindrances involving the model’s design and features.
Despite multiple delays and challenges, Tesla remained committed to bringing the innovative all-electric pickup to the market.
“We dug our own grave with Cybertruck. If you want to do something radical and innovative and something really special like the Cybertruck, it is extremely difficult because there is nothing to copy.”
Tesla CEO Elon Musk said during the Q3 2023 Earnings Call
The new Tesla Cybertruck will undoubtedly attract many customers with its bulletproof steel panels and strong performance. Customers can also opt for bulletproof window glass for an additional price, increasing the safety of relevant people such as government officials and businessmen.
