Tesla Chief Executive Elon Musk immediately addressed the growing complaints about the door panel gaps on the Cybertruck after a prominent YouTube tech reviewer pointed out the issue.
About the door panel gap issue
One of the most experienced tech reviewers Marques Brownlee (MKBHD) recently reviewed the Tesla Cybertruck in a YouTube content. Although MKBHD commended some of the electric pickup’s remarkable features, he also asserted that the unit he reviewed had the “worst” panel gap he has ever seen in a production vehicle.
“I think there’s going to be something wrong with this door because it literally looks like it’s open. That’s pretty bad. I’ve never seen a gap quite that bad. It’s probably one of those things where I’ll have to bring it in to Tesla. They’ll tighten some things up, and it’ll look fine, but that’s the stuff you will probably have to deal with if you get a low VIN Cybertruck.”

Unsurprisingly, the social media-active Tesla CEO immediately responded to a screenshot of the door gap from the MKBHD’s review. Tesla Cybertruck fan @greggertruck shared the screenshot on X, which gained the attention of CEO Elon Musk.
Elon Musk’s explanation
According to CEOMusk, the door panel gap is not a door fit issue. He said that around 15 Cybertrucks in service had a loose door striker problem. He also noted that the issue is easy to fix, saying that the company has already addressed it in production.
“Not a “door fit” issue.
About 15 Cybertrucks in service had an issue where the door striker loosened in the field, due to insufficient torque after door fit.
This is takes 5 mins to fix in service and has been addressed in production.”

Temporary fix
A producer on MKBHD’s YouTube channel Miles Somerville claims to have discovered a “temporary fix,” which is gaffer tape. Mr. Somerville shared on X that he used the gaffer tape to the door striker to get it flush with the electric pickup.
“I “fixed” our door panel gap. I doubt this is a “5 minute” service job but it shouldn’t be too long.
Moral of the story, gaffers tape heals all wounds.”

This issue is unsurprising, considering the previous complaints about the Tesla Cybertruck’s build quality. Early owners complained that their Cybertruck units were already rusting. However, those orange spots are apparently just rail dust caused by transportation on trains.
All these considered, Tesla must continuously strive to improve its electric vehicles’ quality to defend its dominant position in the industry.
