Tesla Chief Elon Musk finally delivered his promise of live streaming the new FSD Beta v12 test drive through social media platform X (former Twitter).
CEO Musk’s live test drive of the latest FSD software update lasted 45 minutes. It demonstrated the electric car’s ability to drive smoothly despite the numerous roadblocks. However, one circumstance during the test drive required the driver’s aid. Refer to the video attached to the X post below:
Test drive highlights
The Tesla boss noted that the company is refining the FSD Beta v12 by training it with more videos showing how cars navigate in various road situations.
That said, CEO Musk also reminded us that they are still finalizing the latest FSD version and its official release. True enough, his test drive encountered one intervention.
“Intervention, sorry. Okay, so that’s our first intervention because the car should be going straight. It’s a question of the traffic lighrts. That’s the first intervention. Okay, you know that’s why it’s not released to the public yet.”

Apart from the one instance where the Tesla EV demanded the driver’s intervention, the test drive went satisfactorily. It even managed to surpass road barriers it had not yet overcome in previous versions.
He further emphasized that Tesla primarily based the v12 version on artificial intelligence (AI).
The 45-minute trip began at the company’s Palo Alto headquarters. It showed how the Tesla EV smoothly drove past a construction road. Its speed also flawlessly slowed ahead of road humps.
“We did not program in… there’s no line of code that says slow down for speed bumps. It is doing this based entirely on video training.”
Tesla CEO Elon Musk
The test drive also demonstrated that the v12 could effectively decide independently as it effortlessly avoided a cyclist on the road.
“And there’s a bicyclist. Again, there is no line of code that says give clearance to bicyclists. It is just doing what people do. It can read signs without ever being taught to read. Once again, there is no line of code that says stop at a stop sign or wait for another car. There’s no ‘wait x number of seconds,’ nothing like that. This is all nets, baby, nothing but net.”

The Tesla car equipped with the FSD Beta v12 d further pressed the audience as it autonomously made way for two other cars before turning.
“We just showed it a bunch of videos about roundabouts. You definitely need a lot of training data, a lot of video training data to make this work.”
Tesla CEO Elon Musk
The Tesla boss also indicated that the FSD Beta v12 can effectively perform these new capabilities even without an internet connection. He also boasted Tesla EVs’ remarkable frame rate.
“We’re running at the full frame rate. It’s taking eight cameras at 36 frames per second. The pure AI version runs better and faster than the version that is a mixture of normal software and AI. In fact, it would run faster than 36 frames per second, except the cameras are only capable of 36 fps. Our back-of-the-envelope calculation is it could probably run at 50 frames a second. Roads are basically designed around 24 frames a second.”
