Tesla, through its Chinese arm, officially kicked off the deliveries of its upgraded Model 3 Performance to local customers on Tuesday, Benzinga reported, citing the company’s social media post.
Earlier than expected deliveries
In hindsight, Tesla China originally announced that initial deliveries of the updated Model 3 Performance would begin in the third quarter of the year when local pre-sales opened this April.
At the time, pre-sales of the updated Tesla Model 3 Performance started at RMB 335,900.
In a significant advancement, customer deliveries of the electric sedan’s top-tier trim started earlier than expected. It comes after the American EV giant introduced other variants of the updated Tesla Model 3 in the Chinese market.
Tesla Model 3 Performance key specs
In an announcement on Chinese social media, Tesla China boasted that the Model 3 Performance can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.1 seconds.
The top-tier Tesla Model 3 trim also apparently has a top speed of 261 km/h and a maximum output of 460 horsepower. The promotional poster also indicated that the new Performance trim features the “acceleration performance of a million-level luxury car.”
Pricing
The Tesla Model 3 Performance has a base price of RMB 335,900 ($46,300) before options, making it quite a catch in the Chinese electric vehicle market. In the US, the Performance trim costs $54,990.
For reference, the cheapest rear-wheel drive trim starts at only RMB 231,900 ($31,961).
Despite its competitive pricing, the Tesla Model 3 still has a lot of competition in the world’s largest auto market. Some of these models include the Xiaomi SU7, benchmarked against the Tesla electric sedan.
So far, interested Chinese customers seeking to place an order are expected to face a wait time of 3-6 weeks before they can take delivery of the updated Tesla Model 3 Performance.
