Musk-led automaker Tesla’s new job advertisement revealed its plans to erect “1st of its kind” data centers in Austin, Texas. Apart from recruiting employees for the planned venture, Tesla is also reportedly seizing some current data centers.
This move is apparently part of the company’s efforts to expand to the data center business. For context, its market size has now reached over $250 billion.
The first job advertisement indicated Tesla’s need for a “Sr. Engineering Program Manager, Data Center.” The electric automaker emphasized the primary role required by this position.
“This role will lead the end-to-end design and engineering of Tesla’s 1st of its kind Data Centers and will be one of the key members of the factory engineering team.”

Unfortunately, Tesla did not elaborate on its “1st of their kind” claim for the planned data centers in Texas.
Tesla seizes Twitter’s data centers
Electrek indicated that Tesla’s move to launch new data centers coincides with its recent takeovers of Twitter’s data centers.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk apparently discontinued paying some of Twitter’s bills, including those related to data centers.
As a result, Twitter lost access to its data centers in Sacramento. As per the social media platform’s new owner Musk, the location is “possibly the worst place to have a data center,” primarily due to heat.
Interestingly, a previous report revealed that the automaker had acquired one of Twitter’s data centers in Sacramento. These are apparently leased from NTT Data.
Moreover, the report also claimed that Tesla was negotiating with Prime Data Centers for another former data center of the social media platform in Sacramento.

These initiatives demonstrate Tesla’s approach to securing data processing capacity. The Musk-led company aims to leverage its millions of EVs on the road to become its “robots on wheels.” This enormous fleet of EVs will gather data to enhance Tesla’s neural nets for its full self-driving software.
