What is Dojo?

Tesla has been developing the Dojo supercomputer, a powerful AI training platform, for several years.

The technology is designed to process large amounts of data from Tesla vehicles and expedite the training of neural networks for improved autonomous driving capabilities.

Dojo supercomputer is expected to enhance Tesla’s Autopilot and Full Self-Driving (FSD) systems by improving perception, decision-making, and overall performance, ultimately increasing vehicle safety and reliability.

All that said, the imminent debut of the Dojo supercomputer signifies a significant milestone in Tesla’s journey to revolutionize the automotive industry.

Dojo development progress

The news comes after Tesla’s AI Day in 2021, where the initial unveiling of the Dojo supercomputer showcased the company’s ambitious plans to revolutionize AI training and bolster its autonomous driving capabilities.

During the 2021 event, Tesla showcased the early stages of the Dojo supercomputer, with the company still in the process of ramping up its efforts. At that time, Tesla had only developed its first chip and training tiles while actively working on constructing a complete Dojo cabinet and cluster, colloquially known as the “Exapod.”

Fast forward to AI Day 2022, Tesla demonstrated significant progress in the Dojo project, including completing a full system tray. During the event, Tesla set an optimistic target of having a complete Dojo cluster by the first quarter of 2023.

However, the first quarter came and went without any updates on the operational status of the Dojo supercomputer.
