After making more than 936,000 deliveries last year, Tesla is aiming to produce 50% more in the current year.
Despite the Shanghai factory being temporarily shut down, the EV automaker is confident that it can produce more units this year. This is achievable given that Tesla was able to overcome supply chain issues that other automakers faced last year.
In the First Quarter Earnings call, Zach Kirkhorn, Tesla’s Chief Financial Officer said that Tesla believes that they can achieve 50% growth this year with Elon Musk backing him: “So as Zach said, we remain confident of a 50% growth in vehicle production in 2022 versus ’21. I think we actually have a reasonable shot at a 60% increase over last year.”
Zach Kirkhorn said the Shanghai facility is up and running again, although at a limited level, with Tesla China working hard to return to full production quickly. Along with Tesla’s new Berlin and Austin plants, they might achieve 50% production growth which can potentially lead Tesla to deliver at least 1.4 million vehicles and with 60% growth production, to deliver at least 1.5 million units.
It also noted that Musk is planning on the production of robotaxis, which will be highly optimized for autonomy, meaning it would not have a steering wheel or pedals. Musk vowed that he will unveil the car in the next two years and begin mass production in 2024.
