Tesla reportedly released additional Model Y All-Wheel-Drive with 4680 battery cells to its online inventory, Tesla North reports citing The Kilowatts.
As shown in the Tweet above, the 269-mile “Standard Range” Model Y costs around $64,000, which is less expensive than its “Long Range” sibling with a 330-mile range.
Tesla’s online inventory
The report stated that Tesla’s online inventory currently has 40 Model Y units with 4680 battery cells. It must be noted that the inventory shows the available units depending on your registered area code.
Apparently, you can access more available units while using the Austin area code.
Tesla online inventory tracker WaitingForTesla.com showed Tesla North the increase in the automaker’s inventory on January 10 at 10:18 am EST. Furthermore, the website also indicates Tesla’s practice of releasing products to its inventory at the “18th-minute mark of the hour.”
Tesla’s 4680 battery cells
Tesla previously claimed that the 4680 cells could increase the range and longevity of its electric vehicles. It further stated that the technology would lessen production costs, lowering the selling price.
Experts also believe that the 4680 cells could reduce Model Y battery costs by 50% compared to its current 2170 battery pack.
In retrospect, the automaker expanded the availability of the Giga Texas-made Model Y units with a 4680 battery in June. At the same time, it has also allowed some of its employees to experience the technology.
Notably, 4680 battery cells offer a more effective way of storing energy. It can potentially provide the automaker with higher sales results and profits. That said, it is no wonder why Tesla is pursuing this battery technology.
