The Federation of Automobile Dealers Association (FADA) released data for electric vehicle sales in India in January 2023 and growth for the previous year.
These figures were released following the announcement of sales figures for various EV makers in the passenger car segment.
Although there were 1.3 percent electric cars in India’s passenger vehicle (PV) market during December 2022, that number dropped to 0.6 percent during January 2022 before climbing back up to 1.0 percent during December 2022.
India’s most successful EV maker
Tata Motors is first on India’s most successful electric car maker list.
The company’s sales of 2,426 electric vehicles in January 2023 represent a 72.79 percent increase compared to January 2022.
Following Totor’s footsteps, the company sold 425 EVs in January 2023, representing a 620.34 percent increase compared to the previous month.
Meanwhile, the number of units sold by BYD India in January 2023 was 132, a significant increase from the ten units sold in January 2022.
India surpassed Japan and Germany’s sales
In similar news, the recently released Economic Survey 2022-23 stated that India’s EV market is anticipated to reach one crore of units of annual sales by 2030.
According to the survey, India will be the third-largest automobile market in December 2022, outpacing Japan and Germany in terms of sales.
Industry estimates suggest total EV sales in India in 2022 will be around 10 lakh units.
