Indian automaker Tata Motors has unveiled a new compact hatchback all-electric vehicle with a starting price of just over INR 849,000 ($10,000), according to Wion. Tata Tiago EV is the latest cheapest electric car, which might significantly boost EV adoption in India.
It is worth mentioning that, prior to the arrival of the Tata Tiago EV, the Tata Tigor EV compact sedan was the country’s cheapest EV. However, the Tiago EV is substantially less expensive than the Tigor, which starts at around 14,940 USD.
The INR 849,000 (USD 10,370) pricing is reportedly only available to the first 10,000 buyers.

Furthermore, the Tiago EV has a cheaper running cost than its gasoline counterpart, with the former costing only INR 1,100 in charging expenses for a distance of 1,000 kilometers (621 miles). Meanwhile, its gasoline counterpart would require at least INR 7,500 in fuel for the same distance.
Notably, Tata is now the only automaker in India with electric vehicles. The company’s position in the country’s EV industry has strengthened with the release of the Tiago EV.
