Suzuki intends to seek the expertise of its long-time Japanese partner Toyota. Per reports, Suzuki plans to utilize Toyota’s EV technology to develop small cars.
“So how to introduce this EV technology on small cars is something we need to work upon and share with Toyota.”
Suzuki President Toshihiro Suzuki
Purpose
Suzuki aims for 100% net-zero emissions by 2070 in India, which aligns with the government’s target. Furthermore, the Japanese automaker aims to launch a product lineup of 60% ICE vehicles, 25% hybrids, and 15% all-electric vehicles by 2030.
That said, the company will also deploy clean ICE vehicles in India by utilizing CNG, biogas, and ethanol mixed fuels, apart from the BEVs.
“Suzuki believes biogas powered CNG vehicles can promote carbon neutrality and economic growth. SMC has an MoU with National Dairy Development Board and Banas Dairy and biogas production will begin in Banaskantha in 2024.”
Suzuki
These initiatives will undoubtedly boost Suzuki’s clean mobility progress towards its net zero emission target. Furthermore, its EV venture will increase its sales, given the rapidly growing adoption of clean energy vehicles.
Partnership
Suzuki will work with Maruti Suzuki, its Yokohama Laboratory, and Suzuki R&D Center India to develop EVs effectively. They would pool their knowledge and expertise of future technologies, advanced technologies, and mass production technologies.
As stated above, Suzuki will strengthen its partnership with Toyota for the development of EV-related technologies for the Indian market.
“We will deepen our cooperation relationship with Toyota Motor Corporation while continuing to be a competitor, and aim for sustainable growth and conquer various issues surrounding the automobile industry. Through the cooperation, we will cooperate in development of advanced technologies including autonomous and battery of electrified cars, business expansion in promising emerging countries, efforts for carbon neutrality in India, as well as formation of a recycling-based society that considers the environment.”
Suzuki
In retrospect, Maruti Suzuki introduced its first EV concept eVX at the Auto Expo 2023. The automaker plans to start production by 2025, as it is the only among the top 5 automakers in India not to penetrate the EV industry. Nonetheless, Maruti leads India’s car market sales with its small and low-cost offerings.
