Multinational automaker Stellantis had a 1% year-on-year sales decline in its overall vehicle sales to 380,563 units in the US market from July to September 2023. Its cumulative sales this year also recorded a 1% YoY drop to 1,183,538 units, InsideEVs reports.
Nonetheless, the automaker’s plug-in hybrid vehicle sales enjoyed a notable growth of 132% in Q3 2023.
Plug-in hybrid sales in the US
Q3 2023 (Jul-Sep)
It is worth noting that Stellantis has no battery-electric vehicle (BEV) model offering in the US market yet.
Stellantis’ plug-in hybrid sales surged 132% YoY to 37,079 units in the third quarter of 2023. This remarkable sales growth enabled the company’s PHEV models to gain a 9.7% share of the overall volume, up from just 4.1% YoY.

Top-selling models – Q3 2023
Stellantis reportedly snatched the top three positions in the PHEV sales ranking in the US. The Jeep Wrangler 4xe continues to lead the market with 17,662 sales in the third quarter.

Meanwhile, the new Alfa Romeo Tonale appeared in the sales data for the first time with 746 units.

Stellantis has been having a hard time catching up in the all-electric vehicle industry. Nonetheless, it continues to advance in the plug-in hybrid market, particularly in the US. It recently announced plans to produce five new electric vehicle models in Italy as it seeks to also excel in the BEV segment.
