Multinational automaker Stellantis and iPhone maker Foxconn partnered to co-found a new 50/50 joint venture SiliconAuto, which will develop and sell a wide range of innovative semiconductors for the auto industry by 2026.

About the joint venture

According to the press release, SiliconAuto will leverage Foxconn’s expertise in the field of Information and Communications Technology and Stellantis’ knowledge of “diverse mobility needs” globally.

Stellantis will generate input for SiliconAuto regarding the relevant features required in futuristic battery-powered vehicles and multi-energy vehicle architectures.

Stellantis asserted that the joint venture would give clients access to a stable semiconductor supplier focused on the automotive industry to support the increasing number of computer-controlled technologies and modules, especially those for electric vehicles.

SiliconAuto’s products will supply Stellantis, Foxconn, and other clients seeking agreement with the JV.

Stellantis noted that the SiliconAuto-made semiconductor would be utilized in its new electrical/electronic and software platform with over-the-air (OTA) update features.

“Stellantis will benefit from a robust supply of essential components, which is critical to fueling the rapid, software-defined transformation of our products.

Our goal is to build vehicles that seamlessly connect with our customers’ daily lives and deliver class-leading capabilities years after they leave the assembly line. With this joint venture, we can create purpose-built innovations with an efficient partnership.”

“We look forward to a future of extraordinary EV mobility underpinned by the vertical integration capabilities and resources SiliconAuto secures for our partners.

The collaborative energy will propel our customers to become more competitive.”
