The IAA Mobility 2023 welcomed some 750 firms from 38 nations as they exhibited their latest technological innovations, Forbes reported. The special event demonstrated the world’s significant advancement in terms of technology.

Qualcomm-AWS partnership for SDV development

American semiconductor maker Qualcomm formed a new partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to advance in autonomous driving and software-defined vehicles (SDVs).

They will cooperate in a software stack, enabling cloud applications to test and mimic innovative solutions without testing the hardware.

Qualcomm will also expand its Snapdragon Digital Chassis with its new QWM2290 and QWS2290 platforms for 2-wheeler models and the micro-vehicle marketplace. These innovations will improve safety, cloud connectivity, infotainment features, and personalization.

Qualcomm’s Auto 4G and 5G will also generate new revenue sources, OTA updates, asset monitoring, and predictive maintenance, among others.

The company also developed a new Snapdragon Concept Car with all its technology.

Mobileye-Valeo partnership for imaging radar tech

ADAS developer Mobileye and auto supplier Valeo partnered to develop an industry-leading imaging radar for fully autonomous driving and driver-assistance technologies.

The integrated system-in-chip layout will also enable a 4D imaging of the surroundings with a scope of up to 300 meters away with a 140-degree field of vision at medium coverage.

Chinese brands’ dominance 

The 2023 IAA Mobility significantly demonstrated Chinese automakers’ strong presence and innovative technologies.

Chinese NEV giant BYD exhibited a total of six EV models in Munich. It includes the $42,000 BYD Seal. The lower-spec variant will have a 61.4kWh battery with up to 550km range. Meanwhile, the Long Range variant has an 82.5kWh battery and a driving range of up to 700km.

BYD also surpassed Tesla’s sales with 1.8 million EVs in 2022. The Chinese automaker aims to hit 2.5 million sales this year.

Audi unveils Q6 e-tron’s new interior

German automaker Audi revealed its newly developed “Digital Stage” cockpit. It has three screens spanning from the driver to the passenger side with gause clusters. It also features infotainment displays and navigation controls.

The model’s windshield also offers an augmented reality display for important data like speed, battery status, and other navigation details.

BMW introduces next-gen EV layout

German legacy automaker also revealed its new Vision Neue Klasse concept car in Munich. It is part of the brand’s strategy to catch up with giants like Tesla and BYD.

It is a sleek coupe EV highlighting BMW’s focus on smart features instead of “ultimate driving machines.”

“The design of the Neue Klasse is typically BMW and so progressive it looks like we skipped a model generation.”

Renault unveils the new Scenic compact electric SUV 

French automaker Renault introduced the battery-electric version of its popular  Scenic small SUV at the Munich auto show. It also announced plans to launch the new model in the first quarter of 2024.

CEO de Meo indicated that the model would sell at a price that would entice most customers without disclosing the exact figure. It will sport the E-Tech badge and use the CMF-EV platform like the Megane E-Tech.

Its Standard Range variant will have a front motor with a maximum output of 170 horsepower and 280 nm of torque. It will also feature a 60kWh battery pack that enables a WLTP-estimated driving range of more than 260 miles, InsideEVs indicated.
