American electric vehicle startup Rivian has just teased five shroud-covered mystery vehicles in its latest shareholder letter, sparking speculation about new models.
Teaser suggests additional EVs
Rivian stunned the industry with the teaser photo it released in its latest shareholder letter, hinting at five new electric vehicle models beyond the R2, R3, and R3X.
Rivian presented its first-gen models on the left side, including the original R1S, R1T, and the electric vans it supplies to Amazon. There were also the second-gen models R1 vehicles.
What’s intriguing in the photo are the subsequent columns featuring the SUV-shaped models, which seem different even from the R2 and R3 Rivian introduced earlier this year.
Automaker stays tight-lipped, but silhouettes spark speculation
Interestingly, two of the covered models seem to duplicate, hinting that Rivian is separately registering multiple trims of the same vehicle.
However, these duplicated models may also be stock “TBD” images that do not represent the final shapes and sizes of the production model.
Rivian has yet to clarify these speculations. However, new Rivian vehicles might highly likely be in the works since automakers tend to be secretive about future releases.
Investor letter sparks speculation about Rivian’s future
Rivian’s latest investor letter, containing hints about its plans, has undoubtedly caused people to wonder what Rivian might be doing next.
Excitingly, these intriguing shapes suggest that Rivian is planning electric vehicles beyond the midsize platform, implying different sizes, styles, or purposes for the new vehicles.
In separate news, Volkswagen announced plans to invest up to $5 billion in Rivian for a potential joint venture. Volkswagen will initially offer $1 billion, enabling it to use Rivian’software and electrical architecture in its products.
